Take a close look at Green Cat with Lights, and you will notice something missing. The ”Dr. Seuss” signature has been replaced with the moniker, “Stroogo Von M.”

Just a few months ago, while talking with Audrey Geisel about artworks in the new Secrets of the Deep book, the question of Stroogo Von M. came up. Audrey replied, “Oh, Ted liked to hang that artwork in the entryway of ‘Seuss House’ [the Geisel home]. When people would come in, they would invariably ask about the painting. Ted would answer, ‘That’s my Stroogo Von M. How do you like it?’ In return, what he would get from friends was an honest opinion without them knowing it was his painting. It was one of Ted’s great practical jokes. On occasion, someone would say, ‘Ah yes, I know Stroogo’s work,’ which would say something quite different about the house guest.”

Green Cat with Lights falls into the category of Ted’s “Big Cats” along with Joseph Katz and His Coat of Many Colors, Indistinct Cat with Cigar, Cat from the Wrong Side of the Track and Wisdom of the Orient Cat. These are some of the most sought-after and cherished artworks of the entire collection.

This piece has been requested many times by investors and fans alike. We’re predicting it to sell out very very fast! If you’re interested in seeing the full size piece, come in and see it at our gallery!

Johnny & Darlene Camp’s dedication to glassblowing is evident in the excellent quality of their work. Johnny and Darlene work together as a team creating a wide variety of hand blown glass, ranging from traditional forms to contemporary styles. Their combined 18 years of expertise as hands on artists, designers, and fabricators have enabled them to achieve intimate works of art, as well as large scale commissions. Glass poses as a seductive medium that continues to excite and inspire them everyday. Each piece is a free hand expression of the excitement and danger only found in a glassblowing studio. For Johnny and Darlene working directly with the glass is not only the time of inspiration, but a time when they can focus on only one thing, the glass, and leave the rest of the world behind.

Opal Art Glass creates exquisite crystal by mixing sand, soda ash, lime and other trace ingredients. Glass is then kept molten in the furnace at 2100 degrees. Preheated tips of stainless steel rods and pipes are used to gather the molten glass. (Imagine winding up honey on the end of a chopstick). Hand tools are used to manipulate and cut the glass. Different designs are created by adding colored glass, gold, silver, and etc. After the glass has reached its finished form, it must be placed in a 930 degree fahrenheit annealing oven. Once the day of producing is over, the oven is cooled at a rate of one degree a minute. The pieces are removed from the annealing oven, ground and polished. Each piece is then inspected, signed and dated. Johnny and Darlene will never stop learning: the possibilities with glass are endless.

Corey Silverman was formally trained as a glass artist while getting his BFA at Alfred University in Alfred, NY. Upon graduating in 1998 he worked with several glass studios around the country before settling in Denver, CO in 1999. His studies with glass have led him to experiment with slumped forms, casting, cold work, solid sculpting and blowing. After much experimentation with glass, he found himself always coming back to the blown form. “I love the immediacy found in making a blown vessel. There’s no questioning what it’s going to look like. You know the end result as you’re putting it away in the annealer. It feels great to have that kind of instant gratification in an art form.”
Horace Marlowe is a studio trained glass artist with over decade of experience. He got his start in 1996 making glass sculptures in Orlando, Fl. Since then He’s worked in some of the finest glass studios from Florida to Colorado.” My love of glass stems back to 1986 where I experienced it for the first time in Colonel Williamsburg. I was amazed at the grace and fluidity of the glass blowers’ movements. The heat, the fire, the glow of the glass, I knew then, I was hooked.” Now Horace’s work can be found is some of the finest galleries all a cross the globe. “My mission is to explore new techniques and discover all the possibilities of glass making.”
Corey Silverman and Horace Marlowe created C&H Glassworks in the summer of 2007.

The goal of Henrietta Glass is to blend excellent design with fine craftsmanship in order to create small pieces of functional art within the reach of regular people. Each piece begins with a simple idea from daily life such as my friend Christine asking me to make a vase “perfect for just one flower” or my cousin needing a place to put her engagement ring while doing the dishes. Every piece of Henrietta Glass is handblown in my Rhode Island studio, by me and my fantastic assistants. We hope you enjoy using your Henrietta Glass as much as we enjoyed making it!

Remember!

We have many small gifts ranging from $10 to $50 that are GREAT for the holiday season. All of the work by Henrietta Glass falls in this range! Don’t forget to mention Facebook for 5% off anything under $100! Come see us, we’re always getting new things in!

Over 30 years ago, Mike Fisher crafted his first “Secret Box” for a special friend. From that humble beginning, Heartwood Creations has established itself as a group of talented craftspeople from America’s heartland whose products are shown in many of the finest craft shops and galleries the world over.

While their company has grown and new products have been created, the “Secret Box” remains thier trademark. Each box is made from the heart. The craftspersons’ mark that signifies their care and love of woodworking is the little heart that you see on every box.
